The Election Commission of India has declared the election results of the 2021 Puducherry Assembly Elections during the early hours of Monday 3rd May 2021. The alliance of All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured the safe majority required to form government in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The winning alliance secured 16 of the 30 seats to obtain majority and for the next government in the 30 member Legislative Assembly of Puducherry.
The final results after the counting are – AINRC has won 10 seats, BJP has won 6, DMK secured 6 wins, 2 wins for Congress and the rest 6 were won by Independents. This the first time that the AIADMK has scored a duck with no wins in the UT of Puducherry. Sources informed the media that the first talks had already commenced late Sunday night between the AINRC and BJP parties to form government in Puducherry. BJP state-in-charge for Union Territories Nirmal Kumar Surana was already present in Puducherry and was taking the lead of the discussions being held by the BJP with the AINRC leaders regarding formation of government.
AINRC Founder and President N Rangaswamy has called for a meeting of party legislators on Monday. Monday will be a busy day for N Rangaswamy as Nirmal Kumar Surana and BJP Rajya Sabha MP also scheduled a meeting with the AINRC founder on Monday afternoon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah expressed gratitude towards the Puducherry public after securing majority with their alliances AINRC and AIADMK. “I thank the people of Puducherry for blessing NDA. We are humbled to serve the people and fulfil their dreams. Our Karyakartas made outstanding efforts to work among the people and elaborate on our agenda of good governance,” tweeted PM Modi from his Twitter handle.
